Live an Empowered Life Workshop

This is a course for those that yearn to be a healing presence in the world and desire to gain the tools to uplift the existence of others. The participants of this course will increase partnership, promote possibility, and reduce suffering in their life and the lives of those around them. This course offers a 24 hour, 7 day a week practice. Have you ever craved “healing homework” and the ability to carry a workshop in your back pocket? To be taught something that feels relevant to your daily life? This is the biggest difference between this course and attending a workshop. Each class builds on the previous class and it is recommended that you attend all 4 classes. Each participant will be assigned daily spiritual readings, practices, and journaling. Each class will be a combination of meditation and group discussion.

Chris Rogers was Director of Empowered Yoga for seven years, and a Senior Facilitator for Empowered Yoga’s 200 Hour Teacher Certification. While at Empowered, Chris attended the year long Transformative Leadership and Cultural Change course at Tai Sophia. After completing the course at Tai Sophia, Chris felt responsible to share the teachings with as many people as possible. This conviction lead to the development of the Living an Empowered Life course. Chris has taught the course at Yoga Teacher Trainings, hospitals, and corporations. Most recently Chris completed a month long residency at The Kanzeon Zen Center in Salt Lake City and studied with Genpo Roshi in Ameland, Holland.

Kirtan with Shantala Canceled

We are sorry to inform you that we have to cancel kirtan with Shantala. Benjy and Heather Wertheimer hit deer in South Dakota and totaled their car. We are thankful that they are not injured! Due to the severity of the car crash they are unable to make it to Jackson. We thank you for understanding that this event is out of all of our hands. What is Kirtan? Who is Shantala?

As humans, we sing to uplift our spirits and to enter a state of pure joy. Kirtan is simply call and response chanting preformed in India’s devotional tradition. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois used to say that for most people chanting is all they need on their path to enlightenment. Guruji would warn us that the practice of asana (posture) may further inflate the ego and could set us back on our path towards enlightenment; he would emphasis that chanting is best for everyone. In joining together to chant, we bridge the space between us and we chant as one entity with pure sound.

Heather Wertheimer is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who combines her special love of both music and yoga to lead devotional chanting for yoga workshops and spiritual gatherings internationally. Heather has toured in the U.S. and abroad with her husband Benjy, Steve Gorn, Manose, and Deva Premal & Miten.

Benjy Wertheimer is an award-winning songwriter, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist (playing tabla, congas, percussion, esraj, guitar, and keyboards). Benjy has toured and recorded with such artists as Krishna Das, Deva Premal & Miten, Jai Uttal, Walter Becker (Steely Dan), and virtuoso guitarist Michael Mandrell. He has opened for such artists as Carlos Santana, Paul Winter, and Narada Michael Walden.

Inner exploration: Reconnect to your mind’s eye, remind yourself to look around inside to see the light that is always there. This class will be done as the sun goes down, so this class is a slower, gentler practice to prepare for inner exploration of the weekend.

Intrinsic connection: Practice challenging asymmetrical poses and core strengthening moves to plug in to your center and move with strength and fluidity from the most intrinsic part of yourself. This class will be the most intense physically — you will sweat, and you will be challenged physically. We will work the core and will also explore what it means to feel supported by the “emptiness” that we can find at the end of an exhalation.

Inner alignment: Dig deep to find inner strength and work with the mind’s eye even more to excavate your most pristine alignment, one that you can truly OWN as your unique expression. This class will be done with special attention to inner alignment. Most similar to a vinyasa flow class.

The Divine in You: This class will truly move you forward in consciousness. A reminder of who you are and a reawakening to why you are here. And this session will be all about meditation in action. We will practice with our eyes closed and begin and/or end with pranayama, meditation, and yoga nidra.

Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring US independence from Great Britain. This Forth of July celebrates 235 years of independence. Let us remember, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” and pause to thank all those who have fought to uphold these liberties.
