New to Yoga?

Why the Heat?

Hot Yoga: speeds up the metabolism, improves the digestive system, improves peripheral circulation, allows for greater range of movement in the joints, muscles and ligaments, promotes detoxification and elimination through the skin, improves T-cell function and the proper function of the immune system, and improves the nervous system so that messages are carried more efficiently to and from the brain.

Yoga practiced in a hot and challenging environment strengthens the mind’s willpower, self-control, concentration, and determination.  After a hot yoga class, the body leaves feeling lighter, cleaner, and more invigorated.

Tips for beginners:

Wear loose, light clothing.   If you go to a hot class, wear shorts.  Avoid long sleeved shirts, long underwear, and sweat pants as all of our classes are warm and you will be hot.

Arrive 15 minutes early to class.  Always check in at the front desk and inform the instructor of any injuries or medical conditions.  We are here for you so please express any concerns and ask questions before class.

Take your shoes off before entering the studio.   We practice yoga in bare feet.   If you are not using your own mat and prefer to wear socks, please wear yoga specific socks as to not slip during the practice.

You will need: a mat, a towel and a bottle of water.   If you do not have these items you can rent or purchase them from our retail.   In time, the body will adjust to the heat and you will not need to drink much water during class.  However, because our classes are heated, we strongly encourage you to hydrate before, during and after class.   Due to the large amount of sweat expelled, the body may need more electrolytes, so feel free to bring Gatorade or water supplements as well.

Avoid eating before class.  It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach.  We recommend that you do not eat 2-3 hours prior to practice.  If you need to eat, fruit and juice is best.

Remove any dangly jewelry and tie up long hair.

Turn off your cell phone.

Practice often.   Practice 4-6 times a week for maximum benefit or 2-3 times per week to see improvement within three months.

Have fun!  A little extra body love never hurt anyone!
